Our Senior Population

About one third of the population over 65 fall each year. Since many of these incidents go unreported by seniors and unrecognized by family members or caregivers, this estimate is most likely quite low. Approximately 9500 seniors die each year due to a fall. If we can prevent even one of these falls it is worth the effort.

There are many reasons for falls but some are due to painful feet caused by corns and calluses, hammer toes and other foot conditions as well as poor fitting shoes. These conditions can contribute to balance issues which can lead to falls. If any of these conditions are found, we can provide information and education about possible comfort measures that can be provided through the use of padding or insoles. We may suggest a different style of shoe to aid in the prevention of the condition. We may also suggest a visit to a podiatrist 65 years or physician that will be helpful as well.

Each new patient is requested to complete a questionnaire about balance, foot pain, recent falls and general foot concerns.
