FAQs

Falls

About one third of the population over 65 fall each year.

Since many of these incidents go unreported by seniors and unrecognized by family members or caregivers, this estimate is most likely quite low.

Approximately 9500 seniors die each year due to a fall. If we can prevent even one of these falls it is worth the effort.
There are many reasons for falls but some are due to painful feet caused by corns and calluses, hammer toes and other foot conditions as well as poor fitting shoes. These conditions can contribute to balance issues which can lead to falls.

If any of these conditions are found, we can provide information and education about possible comfort measures that can be provided through the use of padding or insoles. We may suggest a different style of shoe to aid in the prevention of the condition. We may also suggest a visit to a podiatrist or physician that will be helpful as well.
Each new patient is requested to complete a questionnaire about balance, foot pain, recent falls and general foot concerns.

Diabetes

30,300,000 people have diabetes.
1 of 4 people don’t know they have diabetes.
84,100,000 people are pre-diabetic.
Pre-diabetics include 23,100,000 adults aged 65 or older.
1 of 3 people are pre-diabetic and don’t know it.

This population cannot afford to ignore their feet. Diabetes can cause nerve damage called Neuropathy. With decreased sensation we see ulcers or changes in the shape of the foot, including the devastating Charcot foot. These conditions can lead to amputation if not monitored and controlled.

Diabetes also directly and indirectly affects blood flow to the feet which is a leading cause of limb amputation.

Diabetic patients do not need to lose a limb because they have diabetes. But they do need support and guidance to help prevention.

The Auroria

The Auroria provides us with a vacuum at the tip to help remove dust as it occurs and has a light at the tip for better visibility.
The Auroria is made in Germany.
Additionally, we have a variety of specialty burs to remove thick nails as well as calluses and corns.
We have some that allow us to trim the edge of the nail to reduce the chance of an ingrown nail.

Clean and Sterile

We exceed the standards set by the CDC for semi-critical podiatry instruments.

Our instruments that are suitable for ultrasonic cleaning start the process there, followed by manual cleaning and drying.
We then use an Autoclave or High-Level Disinfection.
We take our patients safety very seriously.
